TAKE THE RIGHT MEASURES

THE CORRECT WAY TO TAKE MEASUREMENTS

HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SIZE

The best thing about sewing for yourself is that you can tailor your favourite clothes. Of course, this only works if you have measured yourself perfectly and know your measurements. Then you can quickly find the right size for the different patterns in the size table.

At this point we explain to you what you should look out for when taking measurements and which body measurements are important.

YOU SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS WHEN TAKING MEASURES

  • put on tight-fitting clothes to measure yourself. Leggings and a t-shirt are sufficient.
  • Stand straight and relaxed without pulling your stomach in.
  • don’t pull the tape measure too tight. It should lie comfortably and loosely on your body. It’s best to ask a friend if she can help you with this.

TAKE MEASURES IN THESE THREE POINTS OF THE BODY

  1. The bust size is measured under the arms over the largest part of the chest.
  2. The waist size is measured at the narrowest part of the middle of the body.
  3. The hip width is measured over the largest part of the hip.

When you have these three measurements, compare them with the cutting information in the measurement table. Choose the size that comes closest to your measurements. If the measurements are between two sizes, choose the larger one, you can always adjust the finished item to become a little smaller but not larger!

Depending on what clothes you sew for yourself, the following rule of thumb applies to the choice of your clothing size:

For dresses, blouses, jackets and coats, use the bust size as a guide. For skirts and trousers, the hip width is the decisive measure.
